Services will be Friday, Sept. 18, for Joan E. “Joanie” Steck, 69, who died Sunday, Sept. 13, in Manteca.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., to the late Harry and Eleanor Albee, she lived in Manteca for 11 years and previously in Campbell for 30 years.

Mrs. Steck worked more than 20 years for Sears Roebuck and Co. in San Jose. She was a huge fan of baseball, football and NASCAR. Her favorite pastime was shopping — family members say she never missed a great sale. She also enjoyed taking trips with the Manteca Senior Center. She adored her two cats, Shy and Tippy.

Mrs. Steck is survived by her husband of 51 years, Fred Steck of Manteca; children, Linda Benson of Orland and Ken Steck of Modesto; siblings, Ross Albee, and his wife, Honey, and Dick Albee, all of New York, and Gary Albee, and his wife, Noy, of Virginia; sisters-in-law, Darlene Marshall and Marlene Fulton, both of Washington; father-in-law, Ray Strange of Napa; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be observed from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home, 290 N. Union Road, in Manteca, followed by a memorial service at 2. An online guestbook will be available at www.plfryandson.com.
