Youth scholarshipsLathrop Parks and Recreation is organizing youth scholarships for local children, 18 years old and younger, to pay for recreation department programs.

Approved families will be eligible for a maximum award of $500 per fiscal year, July 1, 2009, through June 30, 2010.

Volunteers needed to sell fireworksThe Manteca Historical Society is looking for volunteers to work its fireworks booth through July 4 at midnight.
The city of Manteca will officially allow the sale of fireworks in the city beginning at noon Sunday, June 28. More than 70 volunteers will be needed, and most shifts will be about two hours.

Lathrop’s birthday bashThe city of Lathrop will celebrate its 20th birthday on Wednesday, July 1, with a family fun day from

Cat lovers reach out for helpHappy Pet Owners, a nonprofit organization that seeks to spay or neuter stray cats in the Lathrop area, is looking for help from pet lovers.
